About restrictions based on the Windows Firewall settings

On Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 the Windows firewall function is enhanced. The following restrictions may apply to printer drivers and utilities.

Cannot print when computer sharing the network is active.

Open [Windows Firewall] > [Exceptions] on the server, and then select the [File and Printer Sharing] check box.

OKI LPR Utility

Cannot search for a printer.

When the [Don't allow exceptions] check box is selected in the Firewall settings, you cannot search for a printer in a segment that is connected to another router. Printers connected to the same segment do not have this problem. Even if you cannot search for a printer, you can make settings by directly entering the IP address on the [Add Printer] or [Confirm Connections] screen.

Web page

Pop-up windows are blocked.

Open [Pop-up Blocker] > [Pop-up Blocker Settings] on the [Tools] menu in Internet Explorer, add the printer's IP address to [Address of Web site to allow].

Configuration Tool

Cannot search for a printer.

When the [Don't allow exceptions] check box is selected in the Firewall settings, you cannot search for a printer in a segment that is connected to another router. Printers connected to the same segment do not have this problem. Even if you cannot search for a printer, you can select [Tools] > [Environment Settings], and then directly enter the IP address.
